I began playing with clay shortly after moving back to Los Gatos from the Big Island of Hawaii. At first it was about becoming part of the potting community, then about manifesting in form the creativity I had previously express only through my work and yoga. Then it took on a life of it's own - and like everything else in my life it continues to grow and change (I am a Scorpio after all - I thrive on change).
My ceramic piece are all created using slab form (rather than thrown on a wheel) - although my desire to feel the clay spin beneath my hands is becoming stronger and I imagine I will venture back there some time soon. What inspires me the most about slab is the TEXTURE! I have over the years become some what of a texture freak... can you see it?
I spent more than a few years creating large garden pots and whimsical garden art (I am a 4th generation gardener) and while I enjoy selling my pieces - I have allowed a few pieces to live in my garden as well!
I have recently begun to explore sculpting the human form. I chose to start small - but shapely and really like the idea of the piece being held and touched - hence the mug handle. I look forward to expressing in clay what I have been experiencing with & in my body through my work as a massage therapist & yogini.
